Your unread Gmail, right in the menu bar

Gmail Observer keeps an eye on your inbox so you do not have to. See unread conversations across all your accounts and jump straight to any thread, without opening a browser tab first.

Download on the Mac App Store

Unread at a glance

A clean menu bar badge shows how many unread conversations are waiting, with one row per conversation instead of one per message.

Multiple accounts

Sign in with as many Gmail accounts as you like and watch them all from a single menu bar item.

One click to the thread

Click any mail to open the exact conversation in your browser, scoped to the correct signed-in account.

Automatic refresh

Gmail Observer quietly polls in the background so your unread count stays current without lifting a finger.

Private by design

Your mail talks directly to Google. No personal data is ever sent to any third-party service or to us.

Native macOS app

Lightweight, fast, and built with SwiftUI to feel right at home in your menu bar.

Nothing leaves your Mac except a request to Google

Gmail Observer authenticates directly with Google using OAuth and reads only what it needs to display senders and subjects of unread mail. It does not forward your messages, your tokens, or any personal data to other services, analytics, or our own servers.

  1. 1Sign in with your Google account through the official OAuth screen.
  2. 2Gmail Observer reads unread inbox metadata directly from Google.
  3. 3Your unread count appears in the menu bar, updated automatically.
  4. 4Click a conversation to open it in Gmail, scoped to that account.
